PTBA to Operate 10 Electric Buses for Mining Vehicles
December 07, 2022
PTBA use electric buses to support the Net Zero Emission target in 2060 as directed by President Joko Widodo's, also in line with the company's vision to become a world-class energy and chemical company that cares about the environment.
The reduction of carbon emissions is estimated to reach 16 tons of CO2/year/bus. Also, the use of electric buses might reduce the use of fuel oil up to 9,672 liters/year/bus.
"PTBA's decision to gradually switch to electric-based vehicles for mining operations is a form of the company's commitment in decarbonization. We will continue to increase the use of electric vehicles," said PTBA President Director, Arsal Ismail.
Besides electric buses, PTBA has also replaced a number of fossil fueled mining equipment to electrical ones, including 7 Shovel PC-3000 Electric Excavators, 40 Hybrid 100 Ton class Dump Trucks (Diesel and Electric), and 6 electric Mining Pumps.
According to Arsal, other decarbonization programs include the implementation of E-Mining Reporting System, which is a real-time and online production reporting system so as to minimize conventional monitoring that uses fuel and replacement of ozone-depleting substances (BPO) by using environmentally friendly AC refrigerants and Halon 1211 in light fire extinguishers.
"These decarbonization programs are carried out and developed in a sustainable manner in every line of the company to provide optimal results. We already have a carbon management roadmap until 2050," he said.
