PTBA Partners with CDP to Support Indonesia's Net-Zero Carbon Program PT Bukit Asam (PTBA), a part of state-owned mining holding company MIND ID, has taken more concrete steps to realize its vision to become a world-class energy and chemical firm with concerns for the environment.

This is reflected in PTBA's partnership with CDP since the end of 2020. CDP is an international non-profit organization that runs a global system to measure, disclose, manage, and share crucial information regarding companies' environmental performance.

Based in the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States, CDP is the world's number one climate research provider with a network of hundreds of investors. CDP has collaborated with 827 investors with assets totaling US$106 trillion. CDP holds a global collection of corporate environmental data and puts these insights at the heart of the strategic business, investment, and policy decisions.

The collaboration with CDP shows PTBA’s commitment to responding to challenges posed by climate change. All this time, PTBA has made continuous efforts to reduce carbon emissions from coal mining activities.

In July 2021, PTBA held a management meeting in which one of the focuses was to strengthen the carbon management strategy in the operational process. Moreover, PTBA also set an ambitious target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2060 as a support to the government's goals.

"One of the efforts to support that plan is forming a partnership between PTBA and CDP, which aims to measure, disclose, manage, and share crucial information on the company's environmental performance. This is needed as a form of transparency in environmental management and improvement towards a more carbon-friendly operational process," said PTBA President Director Suryo Eko Hadianto on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.

As planned, reports will be published in 2021. By disclosing information through CDP's reporting framework, PTBA expects that all stakeholders, including local and foreign investors, the government, and the public, can witness the company's commitment and concrete steps in supporting the Paris Agreement and the government's goal to reduce carbon emissions by 29% in 2030.

"I believe that individuals of Bukit Asam have high integrity and willingness to work. We must keep maintaining this spirit as there will still be many tasks and challenges that we will face together in the future. I invite all Bukit Asam individuals to join hands to realize the ideals of building a better civilization, prosperity, and future for the company and the Indonesian nation," said Suryo.
