In the education sector, PTBA is committed to improving the quality of human resources by providing tiered scholarships for out-of-school children from elementary to college level. One of the flagship programs in this field is Bidiksiba (Beasiswa Pendidikan Sekitar Bukit Asam), which helps high school graduates or equivalent from underprivileged families near the company’s location to pursue higher education.
From 2013 to 2024, a total of 367 students from areas surrounding PTBA’s operational zones have received this scholarship. Among them, 121 are currently enrolled in higher education institutions, while 246 are alumni who have secured employment across various business sectors. This initiative aims to create a conducive learning environment and ensure more equitable access to education for the next generation in the company’s surrounding communities.
Health is also a top priority. PTBA routinely organizes free medical services such as health checks, mass medication, and mass circumcisions, reaching thousands of residents every year. In addition, the company contributes to improving health facilities and infrastructure—such as the construction of auxiliary health centers and provision of medical equipment—to ensure better access to quality healthcare services. PTBA is also active in nutritious food programs, offering essential nutrition to prevent stunting and to improve child health in its operational areas.
Equally important, PTBA is committed to community economic empowerment. Skills training programs such as knitting, handicrafts, and modern agriculture are designed to enhance local community capacity, enabling them to become more independent and competitive. One successful example is the development of Batik Kujur, an initiative that empowers local communities to produce batik featuring kujur—a distinctive motif from Tanjung Enim—creating economic opportunities while preserving local culture. PTBA also supports the development of other local products such as coffee from nearby regions, assisting farmers from production through to marketing. Business capital support is also provided to small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to boost local economic growth and generate new employment opportunities.
