PTBA Earned The Highest NPM in National Coal Industry

PT Bukit Asam (Persero) Tbk or PTBA earned 14% net profit margin (NPM) up to 2015 third quarter. The figure represented the highest NPM ratio in Indonesial coal mining industry. World wide, PTBA’s NPM ranked as fourth, after Semirara Mining and Power, Coal India and China Shenhua Energy (Bloomberg, 2015/10/21).

PTBA’s NPM in 2015 first quarter (Q1) was 340 billion rupiah, and increased to 450 billion rupiah (Q2) and 710 billion rupiah (Q3). The Q1-Q3 valued of 1.5 trillion rupiah. Up to 2015 September end, PTBA reveneu reached 10.50 trillion rupiah, 9% increased compared with the previous year in the same period. The increase came from sales volume ammounted of 6.88 million tons for export (5% increased) for high calories coal and domestic sales of 7.46 million tons (12% increased).

Up to end of 2015 September, PTBA earned 16% operating profit margin (OPM) and 29% gross profit margin (GPM). The above fugures achieved despite the unfavorable business climate since 2011 and 15% coal prices fall since 2015 beginning. Indonesian Coal Mining Association (ICMA) and Indonesia Mining Institute (IMI) estimated that 70 percent of the coal industry national players were loss, and about 40 percent of its production were closed since 2011. Based on the third quarter end results, PTBA confident to achieve better performance in 2015 compared to previous year.
