Groundbreaking of Solar Power Plant at Bali Mandara Toll Road, Realizing Eco-Friendly Infrastructure To support the reduction of global carbon emissions and Indonesia's G20 Presidency in 2022, PT Bukit Asam Tbk and PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk are committed to build a solar power plant on the Bali Mandara Toll Road, marked by the groundbreaking of the solar power plant at the Ngurah Rai Toll Gate (GT) on the Bali Mandara Toll Road, on Saturday, March 3, 2022. This was a follow-up event to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 2, 2022.

The groundbreaking event was attended by Bali Governor Wayan Koster, Jasa Marga Business Director Reza Febriano, Bukit Asam Business Development Director Rafli Yandra, PT Jasamarga Bali Tol (JBT) President Commissioner Bagus Cahya Arinta B., PT JBT President Director I Ketut Adiputra Karang and PT JBT President Director Bukit Energi Investama (IDX) Zulfarli.

In his remarks, the Governor of Bali Wayan Koster explained that this groundbreaking event was held on a good day for the Bali Province because it happened on the day of tumpek wayang, one of which effort was to maintain balance and cleanliness of nature. This was also in accordance with the implementation of the Bali Provincial Government's consistent policy on clean energy from upstream to downstream.

“With clean energy, clean air will be created. The air we breathe every day will enter our bodies so that we will be healthier. The implementation of this new and renewable energy will create long-term certainty for the availability of clean energy for the Bali Province. Not only that, the solar power plant construction will be decorated aesthetically with Balinese ornaments that will further beautify the Bali Mandara Toll Road as a strategic entrance displaying Bali cultural rich," said Wayan.

Jasa Marga Business Director Reza Febriano explained that the Bali Mandara Toll Road as one of the infrastructures that will support the implementation of the 2022 G20 Presidency is more environmentally friendly with the solar power plant construction to meet the daily operations of this toll road.

“Reducing global carbon emissions as one of the Indonesia's G20 Presidency focuses is our concern and commitment. This is also in line with one of the three focuses of the Indonesia's G20 Presidency agenda, namely sustainable energy transition. This is what underlies the solar power plant development cooperation with Bukit Asam that will contribute to the realization of Jasa Marga Group's sustainable toll road commitment," said Reza.

Director of Business Development of Bukit Asam Rafli Yandra also said, "This solar power plant is a form of synergy to create clean and sustainable energy. This is also a manifestation of Bukit Asam's commitment as an energy company to continue to increase the portfolio of new renewable energy-based power plants that is currently more intensively developed," said Rafli.

The Bali Mandara Toll Road solar power plant will later be built by Bukit Asam’s subsidiary PT BEI, to support the business and operational activities of PT JBT, Jasa Marga’s subsidiary. Having a maximum capacity of 400 kilowatt-peak (kWp), the construction of the solar power plant will begin at the Ngurah Rai GT which will then be extended to two other GTs, namely GT Nusa Dua and GT Benoa. Later, solar panels will be installed at six points, each at access to enter and exit the motorway at 3 toll gates on the Bali-Mandara Toll Road. The length of the solar panels for each of these points is one kilometer.

The electricity supply obtained through the solar power plant will later become an environmentally friendly source of electricity for Public Street Lighting (PJU), operational offices and also toll gates on the Bali Mandara Toll Road. During the solar power plant construction, Jasa Marga keeps maintaining the safety and comfort of Bali Mandara Toll Road users, especially motorcyclists, by ensuring that there are no disturbances in the lane and that they operate optimally according to Minimum Service Standards.

The solar power plant construction as a form of collaboration and synergy of SOEs in supporting Indonesia's 2022 G20 Presidency is targeted for completion in July 2022. In addition to switching to new and renewable energy, the Bali Mandara Toll Road is also undertaking other environmentally friendly programs such as planting about 750 thousand mangrove plants.

In addition, the landscaping and beautification work of the Bali Mandara Toll Road in order to support the implementation of the 2022 G20 Presidency is also ongoing, including gardens in the toll gate area and planting ornamental plants in the median of the road, at all existing toll gates and accesses on the Bali-Mandara Toll Road. Not only beautification and landscape arrangement, the Balinese ornaments as Bali Province characteristics, will be installed in PJU lights and toll gates to be presented to the G20 Presidency state guests.
