This year, the criteria of a company’s sensitivity and responsiveness to disaster in the aspect of community empowerment was added to the PROPER assessment.

The Gold PROPER Award is the highest award given to a company that is able to demonstrate sustainable efforts in the environmental sector, carry out innovations in the aspect of resources empowerment as well as community development and empowerment.

PTBA President Director Arviyan Arifin underlined that the Gold PROPER Award won by the Tarahan Port was a proof of performance of all individuals at PTBA who were committed to contributing and working optimally, including in the aspect of environment, despite the challenging time due to the Covid-19 pandemic this year.

PROPER is not just about the obligation to comply with rules, as it also serves as a motivation to improve the performance quality and realize the commitment to be a top-performing energy company.

PROPER is also about PTBA’s continuous, sustainable partnership with relevant stakeholders that has had positive impacts on both parties, including with the regional administration, the locals living around the operational area, and other parties through the CSR program that emphasizes community development.

PTBA’s innovations that have resulted in the 2020 Gold PROPER Award are as follows:

1. Innovation in energy use, as the Tarahan Port has modified the existing equipment by electrifying the vibrating screen, leading to an increase in loading rate from 2,270 tons per hour to 2,592 tons per hour and a decrease in operating time. Subsequently, electricity consumption has dropped by 17%, equal to 3,070.26 gigajoule or 1.3 billion rupiah.

2. Innovation in water consumption by setting up a dust fogging system for dust control based on train presence sensors to make water consumption efficient.

3. In terms of biodiversity, the Tarahan Port has taken part in conservation activities to protect endangered animals, particularly in the captive breeding of Bali starling and yellow-crested cockatoo.

4. Innovation in CSR, as the company has run a program to develop downstream bamboo industries, through which it helps plant 10,000 bamboo seeds in various locations. Other downstream activities include producing bamboo vinegar, which can be utilized in the agriculture sector and can be made into disinfectant that is required in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
