3 MURI Records in Bukit Asam Anniversary Celebration

Something special happened in Bukit Asam's Anniversary celebration this year. After Anniversary ceremony, thousands of dancers filled the main field of Bukit Asam Head Office in Tanjung Enim. The front row dancers dressed in local motifs traditional clothes, while the other dancers in traditional Batik Kujur motifs of Tanjung Enim black clothes.

Together, the dancers, consisting of elementary to high school students, presented the Nyambut Dance, the welcoming guest traditional dance of Lawang Kidul, Tanjung Enim. The simultaneous dancing moves received extraordinary appreciation from the ceremony audience.

1,204 were the exact number of dancers counted by MURI (Indonesia World Records Museum) team. This number made Bukit Asam earned MURI record’s “The Most Dancers in Tari Nyambut Performance”. Furthermore, this fantastic number was even recorded as the World’s record.

Besides “The Most Dancers in Tari Nyambut Performance” record, Bukit Asam also earned two other records, namely “Coal Mining Company With The Most Gold Environmental PROPER Awards” and “The Oldest Active Coal Mine”.

From 2013 to 2018, Bukit Asam received 6 Gold PROPER Awards in a row. PROPER Award was Program Penilaian Peringkat Kinerja Perusahaan or Corporate Performance Rating Program presented by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia. With this consecutive awards, Bukit Asam proved its commitment for environmental care and community empowerment in encouraging community self-reliance.

As for “The Oldest Active Coal Mine” record, Airlaya Tanjung Enim Coal Mine is exactly 100 years old this year. This coal mining began to operate in 1919 using underground mining method. Currently it is still active using the open pit mining method.
