Arsal Ismail, President Director of PTBA, said, "In order to realize the 2060 Decarbonization target, the company has three main strategies, namely Operational Decarbonization, Clean Portfolio Development and Emission Offset Efforts. We hope that by implementing the three main strategies prudently, we can help the government's program in realizing the Net Zero Emission target by 2060."
From the three main strategies that have been made, the company then reduces them down into several strategic programs which are derivative programs from the three main strategies to be implemented into operational activities.
Strategic programs related to Operational Decarbonization implemented in operational activities include Electrification of operational processes, Operational optimization for energy efficiency and Adoption of clean energy in operational activities.
Meanwhile, Clean Portfolio Development, among others, focuses on business diversification towards a more environmentally friendly portfolio, renewable energy business development, application of cleaner coal-based power plant technology and other green business development. Meanwhile, Emission Offsets consist of land reclamation and revegetation, participation in carbon markets and carbon and methane capture technology.
"Until today, we have implemented several programs related to energy transformation, our team has also developed various technologies to help the internal monitoring control system which can also help reduce the carbon footprint that was previously done manually," added Arsal.
The transition to clean energy is carried out gradually by considering various aspects, including aspects of supply reliability and affordability. PTBA is always committed to contributing to maintaining national energy security by continuing to adapt to environmentally friendly technologies.
The company has also established cooperation with various parties to encourage increase of coal added value \and the development of EBT. Among these are collaborations with the National Research & Innovation Agency (BRIN) in conversion of coal into Artificial Graphite and Anode Sheet for battery raw materials. Also collaborating with Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in research and development of low-calorie coal into humic acid. The hope is that these innovations in the future can continue to be developed to a commercial scale.
"In order to bring Relentless Energy, we encourage downstreaming and diversifying business into new renewable energy (EBT). In line with the Asta Cita promoted by the government, in this case, namely continuing downstreaming and industrialization to increase added value in the country," Arsal concluded.
