"Carbon reduction and CCUS are alternative technologies to support the availability of energy that is more environmentally friendly and sustainable, so it is important to be developed," said PTBA Main Director Arsal Ismail at the award ceremony held in Bogor, West Java on Sunday November 27, 2022.
The company opened a call for local citizens to send their proposal to contribute to research and innovation in decarbonization technology in coal mining activities to achieve Indonesia's Net Zero Emission (NZE) target in 2060 or earlier.
The BAIA 2022 Greenovator competition, which was previously part of the 2022 BIGMIND Innovation Award held by the state-owned mining holding, Mining Industry Indonesia (MIND ID), was launched on March 22, 2022. The competition series including roadshows and workshops, innovative works delivery, screening, participants briefing, works presentation, field verification, and winners selection.
The technical evaluation committee consisted of several experts in the field of energy technology: Ir. Nanang Untung, IPU., Dr. Ir. Unggul Priyanto, M.Sc., Dr. Ir. Andang Bachtiar, Prof. Ir. Renanto, M.Sc., Ph.D., Ir. Utjok W.R. Siagian, M.Sc., Ph.D., and Ir. Dadan Ruswandana, M.Eng.
782 participants came from various universities and research institutes throughout Indonesia and total of 90 innovation works were uploaded, consisting of 44 works in the CCUS category and 46 works in the Carbon Reduction category.
There were 5 place winners for each category. However, according to the Chairman of the BAIA Greenovator Jury, Ir. Nanang Untung, IPU, there would not be any first place winner for the CCUS category for no CCUS innovation works had met the first winner passing grade.
"We need to be concern regarding the complex development of CCUS technology in Indonesia. We certainly will continue to inspire and motivate Indonesian researchers and innovators to develop CCUS technology in the future," he added.
