A total of 700 fourth and fifth grade students took part in the Kelas Inspirasi that provided an understanding on organic and inorganic waste management, as well as hands-on experience in planting shade trees and fruit plants in school areas. PTBA also involved 81 company volunteers to guide and directly educate the students.
PTBA’S Environmental Management and Mining Support Subdivision Head, Amarudin, stated that this activity is a concrete manifestation of the implementation of PTBA's vision as a world-class energy company that is environmentally conscious.
"We believe that protecting the environment must begin with early education. Through this program, we aim to instill awareness in the younger generation so they grow to be agents of change who carry the green spirit to the future," he said.
As additional support, PTBA also provided each participating school with one printer unit and one water dispenser unit.
PTBA's environmental commitment is also in line with the goal of achieving Net Zero Emission by 2060 or earlier, as set by the Government of Indonesia. This educational program is one of the community-based approaches supporting that major agenda.
"Small steps such as managing waste and planting trees have a big impact in preserving the environment and absorbing carbon emissions," added Amarudin.
The activity received positive responses from volunteers, participants, and schools. One volunteer, Yuda Pangestu, expressed his happiness at being directly involved in environmental education for elementary school children.
"It was a new experience for me. I am really happy with the kids’ enthusiasm during the activity. I hope this kind of event can continue and reach more schools," he said.
One of the student participants, Fadil, also shared his impressions of the event..
"Thank you, PTBA. I really liked the games and learned new things about where trash goes," he said.
The principal of Bukit Asam Elementary School in Tanjung Enim, Suprapti, also expressed her appreciation to PTBA for organizing the event.
"Our students had an amazing experience, from planting trees and learning waste management to practicing it directly with the friendly volunteers. This is a valuable foundation for building environmentally conscious character. We hope such activities can continue sustainably," she said.
In addition to Green School, PTBA also held several other activities in celebration of World Environment Day 2025, including river clean-up actions, tree planting, and a cross-country running competition.
Through these various initiatives, PTBA reaffirms its commitment to supporting the realization of a sustainable future.
