The droppings produced by quail can be used as natural food for fish, and the eggs can be sold in the local area and in modern markets. Apart from economic benefits, quail cultivation also increases public awareness of the importance of environmental conservation.
"It is hoped that the quail cultivation program will have a positive impact on the people of Seleman Village, especially those driven by the Bangsal Pematang Group, both from an economic and environmental perspective. Apart from that, the success of this program can also be a model for other areas that face similar challenges," said the VP Sustainability PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), Hartono.
In March 2024, PTBA will hold its first quail cultivation training. This training covers cultivation techniques, feed management and market analysis for quail in Sumatra. A total of 15 participants from the Pematang Ward Group in Seleman Village participated in this training enthusiastically.
In this training, each participant received assistance in the form of 200 quail to be cultivated, as well as 200 quail broodstock ready to lay eggs. It is hoped that this assistance will be the initial capital for participants to start their own quail cultivation business.
It is hoped that Seleman Village can become a successful example of the transformation of an unlicensed mining area through innovative and sustainable initiatives.
"PTBA is committed to continuing to support and monitor the development of this program, ensuring that long-term goals can be achieved," said Hartono.
With this program, it is hoped that Seleman Village will not only increase its prosperity, but also become an example for other regions in utilizing local resources wisely and sustainably.
