PT Bukit Asam Tbk (IDX:PTBA) officially opened the Bukit Asam Innovation Awards 2022 (BAIA 2022) competition series: Greenovator with the theme "Decarbonization Competition". This program is a manifestation of the company's serious commitment in overcoming the challenges of climate change through research and solutive technology.PTBA invites reliable researchers and innovators in the environmental and mining fields to develop original technologies within the framework of business and environmental sustainability. This competition started on March 22, 2022 and the registration open until August 31, 2022.
Greenovator Competition Category
Two categories of BAIA 2022 innovations are Carbon Capture, Utilization, & Storage (CCUS) and Carbon Reduction. There are also a total of Rp3 billion prizes for top 10 best works.
The CCUS competition category includes innovation works related to the use of the CCUS method in the operation of a Steam Power Plant or gasification plant with carbon capture as a mandatory innovation instrument.
The Carbon Reduction competition category is related to the method of reducing CO2 emissions in the mining process and coal utilization through energy efficiency, electrification, renewables, equipment optimization schemes, and others.
The Urgency of Technology Development
So far, tackling climate change has encountered many obstacles and challenges, ranging from the availability of alternative energy, global energy dependence, to technological developments that have not been maximized. However, with the issuance of international commitments to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, the need for the development of decarbonization technologies is becoming more evident.
“These obstacles and challenges create opportunities for organizations, institutions, startups, and even the general public to get their advanced technologies that are effective in overcoming excess carbon emissions to be recognized and acknowledged. In addition, the Greenovator competition can be an initial stepping stone for the participants to diversify their business towards green energy,” explained Iko Gusman, the Chair of the Greenovator BAIA 2022 Committee.
With the rapid development of science and technology, especially in the field of decarbonization technology, Greenovator is now providing series of roadshows and workshops as a forum for sharing knowledge between stakeholders.
“We expect the nation's brightest individuals in the field of decarbonization technology to participate in Greenovator. This is also a manifestation of PTBA's commitment to support the Indonesian government's ESG policy based on the 2020-2024 RPJMN and Indonesia's presidency in the G20 towards Net Zero Emission in 2060," added Iko.
