
Yogyakarta, December 3, 2024 - PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) has partnered with the Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) Veteran Yogyakarta, Universitas Padjadjaran, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), the Farmers' Business Entity (BUMP) Pengayom Tani Sejagad, and Kweni 5 Yogyakarta to develop the Carbon Saver for sustainable agriculture.
This new innovation was introduced during the "First Harvest of Carbon Saver Formula for Sustainable Agriculture" event in Yogyakarta on Friday (November 29, 2024). The collaboration in the development of Carbon Saver aims to address challenges in the agricultural sector, particularly in reducing carbon emissions and improving crop yields.
The Carbon Saver is a soil enhancer that reduces the release of carbon elements in the soil. This product also contains essential nutrients required by plants. All components of the Carbon Saver product are organic, and it is necessary for the sustainable food industry.
Dedy Saptaria Rosa, VP of Sustainability at PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), explained that the company is strongly committed to implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Through research and development of environmentally friendly technologies, one of which is this Carbon Saver, we hope that the agricultural industry in the future will be more competitive, environmentally friendly, and support the national food self-sufficiency program," said Dedy.
Dr. Susila Herlambang, the Head of the Carbon Saver Downstreaming Team, expressed gratitude for the creation of the Carbon Saver innovation. He mentioned that downstreaming is not just about processing products, but also about creating a positive impact on society, the economy, and the environment.
"Through Carbon Saver, we are opening new opportunities for farmers to reduce carbon emissions, increase agricultural yields, and maintain soil sustainability. I invite all parties to synergize, collaborate, and support the downstreaming of this product. Together, let’s realize more sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture," he said.
Roy Ubaya, Designer and Collaborator of the Sustainable Food Program, also shared that the Carbon Saver is part of Bukit Asam’s Ruang Rural Program (Rumpun Pangan Berbasis Energi Terbarukan yang Ramah Lingkungan).
"This Carbon Saver will automatically result in healthier soil, as the Carbon Saver formula contains organic soil enhancers that create spaces to store carbon elements in the soil. With the increasing use of organic components in the soil, the food production yield will naturally have low residues, leading to long-term and sustainable food production that supports the creation of a healthy environment for future generations," he concluded.
