Bukit Asam (PTBA) Releases 30,000 Fish Seeds for Community Empowerment in Sawahlunto As part of activities series marking PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA)'s 44th Anniversary, the Ombilin Mining Unit provided fish seed assistance to community groups managing rivers in Sawahlunto City on Monday, April 21, 2025. The assistance included a total of 30,000 fish seeds, comprising 12,000 gariang fish seeds and 18,000 patin fish seeds.

The symbolic of the assistance handover took place by releasing the fish seeds into the Batang Ombilin River in Sawahlunto. Attending the event were Yulfaizon, General Manager of PTBA's Ombilin Mining Unit, along with the management team, as well as Jeffry Hibatullah, Deputy Mayor of Sawahlunto, and representatives from the beneficiary community groups.

Yulfaizon, General Manager of PTBA Ombilin Mining Unit, hopes that the fish seed assistance would be successfully cultivated and provide economic benefits to the local community.

"We hope that the distribution of gariang and patin fish seeds will have a sustainable impact on the community. The fish seeds will be spread across the rivers in this city, including Batang Malakutan, Batang Lunto, and Batang Ombilin," said Yulfaizon.

Jeffry Hibatullah, Deputy Mayor of Sawahlunto, expressed his gratitude to PTBA for the company’s concern and contribution to supporting community empowerment. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the recipient groups make optimal use of this assistance to sustainably enhance the productivity of the fisheries sector in Sawahlunto City.

"This fish seed assistance serves as a motivation for the community to maintain the sustainability of the rivers. If the rivers are not properly cared for, the released fish may not survive and could fail to be harvested. Additionally, consuming fish helps improve nutritional intake, which plays a role in reducing stunting," said Jeffry.

Jeri Rizal, Head of Salak Village, expressed his gratitude for the fish seed assistance from PTBA. "This is not the first time Bukit Asam has supported the people of Sawahlunto City. Every year, Bukit Asam acknowledges our community, and each year, we harvest fish that have a significant impact on the community," he concluded.
