Bukit Asam (PTBA) and Community Synergize to Green the Environment Through Tree Planting Initiative PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Kertapati Port unit conducted a tree planting initiative on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, along Jalan Pangeran Sido Ing Kenayan in Karang Anyar Village, Gandus District, Palembang. The activity held as part of PTBA’s 44th Anniversary celebration, involving members of the local community, marking the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community empowerment.

A total of 50 participants from various segments of the local community actively took part in the initiative, which aimed to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the preservation of terrestrial ecosystems.

Ichsan Aprideni, General Manager of PTBA’s Kertapati Port, stated that the initiative represents the company’s manifestation of sustained commitment to balancing industrial operations with environmental responsibility.

"We believe that the company’s growth must go hand in hand with environmental conservation. This tree planting initiative is one of our concrete efforts to realize that vision," he stated.

Jufriansyah, Head of Gandus Sub-district, remarked on the same occasion that the tree planting served as a symbol of hope for a greener and healthier future. He also emphasized that the initiative fostered a spirit of collaboration and strengthened ties between the community and the company in realizing sustainable environment.

“These planted trees would not be harvested immediately, as they require a process and may only be enjoyed by future generations. On behalf of the community, I express my sincere appreciation to Bukit Asam for their care and commitment to the people of Karang Anyar through this beneficial initiative," he concluded.

Beyond its environmental benefits, the tree planting initiative is also expected to provide added economic value for the surrounding community. A variety of productive tree species—including tembesu, trembesi, gaharu, merbau, eucalyptus, and mahogany (six of each)—were planted, with the potential to serve as future sources of raw materials for the furniture industry and other products.

In addition, the initiative also enriches the local landscape through the planting of various ornamental plants, including 13 stems of sugar cane, 25 stems of orchids, 20 stems of asoka, 20 stems of ornamental yellow bamboo, 15 stems of mini ketapang kencana, 18 stems of mini gardina sabrina, and 15 stems of hibiscus. The community will also benefit from the future harvest of fruit-bearing trees, including mango, durian, rambutan, avocado, and jackfruit, with eight stems of each planted.

This collaborative initiative not only enhances the environment but also strengthens the relationship between PTBA and the local community, creating a positive synergy towards a greener and more prosperous future.
