Coal briquettes are solid fuels produced through a series of special processes at the plant, including carbonization, to improve the quality of coal calories. PTBA's flagship product, Super Briquettes, through this carbonization process is able to increase the calorific value from around 4,800–5,000 to 5,300–5,800 kcal/kg (GAR).
"This super briquette is known for its easy burning, does not produce smoke, and does not affect the taste of dishes. This is what makes it increasingly in demand by food and catering businesses," said Turino Yulianto, Director of Downstreaming and Product Diversification of PTBA.
Coal briquettes offer a series of significant advantages over conventional fuels, making them an attractive energy option. One of the main benefits is efficiency, which is reflected in their more energy-efficient nature. In addition, these briquettes produce high ember heat with a clean, soot-free flame, keeping furniture and kitchens clean.
Another important advantage is that they burn smokelessly and odorlessly, ensuring no change in the taste or aroma of dishes, even making them safe for household use, especially the Super Carbonized Briquettes. These briquettes also guarantee safety as they are non-toxic and harmless to humans as well as pets or livestock, and free from the risk of explosion. Finally, even the ash left over from can be reused as scouring ash, briquette igniting tools, fertilizer mixtures, or as a building material.
Coal briquettes demonstrate versatility and can be widely utilized in various sectors. In the context of cooking, these briquettes are an ideal choice for households, restaurants, cracker factories, tofu/tempeh factories, and various other culinary businesses. In addition, briquettes also play an important role in heating, both as space heaters, to support chicken farming operations, and in the essential oil distillation process.
Its drying capabilities are also very effective, used to dry commodities such as rice, tea, tobacco, rubber, coffee, and copra. Not only that, briquettes are also utilized in the combustion process for the production of bricks, roof tiles, and limestone. Finally, beyond these functions, briquettes also have other significant benefits, such as being fuel for steam boilers.
The Tanjung Enim and Natar Briquette Plants also produces and sells briquette stoves, including portable stoves to make it easier for consumers to utilize briquettes as fuel. With an installed capacity of 10,000 tons per year, PTBA continues to increase briquette production in accordance with demand growth. The potential for briquette development is still very large, both for household needs, small industries, and the agricultural and livestock sectors. Currently, PTBA also continues to expand its wings by embracing MSMEs and cooperatives around Muara Enim, Lahat, and Lampung as a market share for briquettes, expanding the range of the benefits of this downstream product.
PTBA is committed to continuously improving product quality and expanding its distribution, not only expanding business diversification, but also contributing to supporting national energy security and the transition to efficient and sustainable energy use.
