Bukit Asam (PTBA) Acquires Energy Management System Certification

Bukit Asam (PTBA) Acquires Energy Management System Certification PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), a member of the MIND ID Group, has acquired ISO 50001:2018 certification for Energy Management Systems from PT TUV SUD Indonesia. On Friday, March 15, 2024, the President Director of PT TUV SUD Indonesia, Yuan Handayana, presented the certification directly to the President Director of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), Arsal Ismail, in Jakarta.

PTBA obtains this certification after achieving standards for managing energy use and measuring energy performance in a sustainable manner.

According to Arsal Ismail, the company's ISO 50001:2018 certification demonstrates its strong commitment to supporting the achievement of Net Zero Emission target by 2060.

"PTBA has a vision of becoming a world-class energy company that cares about the environment. Therefore, we pay great attention to energy efficiency and emission reduction in our operational activities. ISO 50001:2018 certification is an acknowledgment of our commitment to environmental sustainability," said Arsal.

The company has implemented a number of energy efficiency and emission reduction programs, in accordance with PTBA's carbon management roadmap until 2060.

“Among other things, we are replacing fossil fuel-powered mining equipment with electric ones. PTBA has used electricity-based tools such as an Electric Excavator type Shovel PC-3000, a Dump Truck class 100 Ton hybrid (Diesel and Electric), and an Electric Mining Pump," said Arsal.

Additionally, PTBA has run electric buses at Tanjung Enim Mining Unit and Tarahan Port. In order to reduce the amount of fuel used for conventional monitoring, the company also implements E-Mining Reporting System, which is an online, real-time production reporting system.

Then, through the Eco Innovation Program, PTBA achieves an annual energy efficiency of 380,697 GJ while reducing CO2e emissions by 95,383 tons.

"PTBA will continue to strive to implement sustainable business practices, one of which is through the implementation of good energy management system, in order to increase efficiency, quality, compliance, and provide a positive impact on the environment," he said.
