Bukit Asam (PTBA) Towards a World Class Energy Company that Cares about the Environment PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) has a vision to become a world-class energy company that cares about the environment. PTBA is taking various initiatives to achieve this goal by providing sustainable energy to the country.

One approach is to generate clean energy. So far, the Company has collaborated with PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) to build a solar power plant with a maximum capacity of 241 kilowatt-peak (kWp) at Soekarno-Hatta Airport's Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC) Building, which has been fully operating since October 2020.

Apart from Angkasa Pura II, PTBA is collaborating with Jasa Marga Group to develop PLTS on toll roads. PLTS with a capacity of 400 kWp on the Bali-Mandara Toll Road has been completed and inaugurated on September 21 2022.

Several PTBA ex-mining lands are being explored for solar power plant development. There is also the possibility of collaborating with other parties in developing solar power plant to support the operations of PT Semen Padang and PT Timah Tbk.

Besides solar power plant, PTBA is also exploring the development of a Wind Power Plant with China Huadian Overseas Investment Co. Ltd. and Huadian Guangxi Energy Co. Ltd.

"We are ready to contribute to achieving the Net Zero Emissions target by 2060 or sooner. The company is committed to supporting government programs that encourage the transition to clean energy," said PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Corporate Secretary, Niko Chandra.

In its operational activities, PTBA implements Good Mining Practice with decarbonization programs. The Company’s Eco Innovation programs include planting endemic orchids, operating electric buses for employees, shortening coal transportation distances, implementing 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) conveyor belt waste.

"PTBA is also performing critical land planting for watershed rehabilitation, post-mining land reclamation, as well as a mining equipment electrification program such as electricity-powered buses and mining pumps," explained Niko.

The company engages in social innovation through the Eco Agrotomation Program. This program encourages environmentally friendly, automation-based plant cultivation to support reforestation and reclamation programs. "The community's economy will improve and environmental sustainability will be preserved because of this program," he said.

Since 2016, PTBA and the Muara Enim Regency Government have worked together to launch the Tanjung Enim Tourism City Program. The goal is for Tanjung Enim, a coal mining region, to develop into an independent tourism destination in the future.

Numerous new tourist attractions, including Coal Museum, Mini Zoo, Taman Sriwijaya, and Waterpark, have been constructed. Tanjung Enim will also develop a 17 hectare (ha) Botanical Garden on post-mining land.

"PTBA has developed a carbon management roadmap until 2060. Decarbonization programs will continue to be implemented and developed sustainably in every line of business to provide optimal results," concluded Niko.
