Bukit Asam (PTBA) Receives Patent Rights for CISEA Application and Floating Artificial Wetland PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) has secured a patent certificate for CISEA (Corporate Information System and Enterprise Application) and floating artificial wetland structure. CISEA is an in-house super app that PTBA developed for mining digitalization. Meanwhile, floating wetland is a method that PTBA developed to remove contaminants like heavy metals and neutralize acid mine water.

Sri Lastami, the Director of Patents, Integrated Circuit Layout Design and Trade Secrets at the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkum HAM), delivered the patent certificate to the President Director of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Arsal Ismail in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

Arsal said that he was proud that PTBA's invention had been patented. This is necessary to recognize the efforts of PTBA personnel, protect products, and encourage future innovation.

"Today is a very proud day for us. Our efforts, hard work, and dedication have finally paid off with the acquisition of patents for our renowned super applications, CISEA, and floating wetlands that benefit the environment. Patents provide legal protection for our innovations  and create great opportunities for future development," said Arsal.

CISEA was developed in October 2019 and officially launched in March 2020. All PTBA personnel have benefited from it since CISEA allows for real-time monitoring of all operational activities from mine production to ports using mobile phones. In 2021, PTBA successfully gained trademark and copyright rights for CISEA, followed by patent rights in 2024.

Since 2011, PTBA has been developing the floating wetland method, following the enactment of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number 5 of 2022 concerning Wastewater Treatment for Mining Businesses and/or Activities Using the Artificial Wetland Method. PTBA served as a reference for the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) in the implementation of constructed wetlands in 2022.

"I express my greatest appreciation to the Directorate General of Intellectual Property for completely supporting our efforts to get this patent," said Arsal.

This patent is expected to be a driving factor for PTBA personnel to continue to innovate. "This serves as the foundation for further exploration of new opportunities and create even greater works. The spirit of innovation is required to achieve our vision of becoming a world-class energy company that cares about the environment, enabling PTBA to provide non-stop energy," he said.

On the same occasion, Sri Lastami stated that PTBA patents have raised Indonesia's Global Innovation Index. Sri hopes that PTBA personnel would continue to innovate for the betterment of Indonesia.

“Problems lead to innovation. The innovation is then patented, the innovators or developers of the products or innovation concepts are given complete ownership of the products or ideaa that they create. We hope that many more innovations will be developed by PTBA and Indonesia so that we may become highly innovative nation, especially considering that Indonesia's population nearing 270 million people,” she said.
