PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), a member of the state-owned mining holding MIND ID, has collaboration agreement with the National Research & Innovation Agency (BRIN) to encourage innovation in the coal-based industry and new and renewable energy (NRE).The collaboration between PTBA and BRIN encompasses several areas, including research and development, energy and industrial technology studies in coal-based industry, also research and development, energy and industrial technology in the NRE sector, as well as assistance and input in the study, selection, and application of energy and industrial technology.
This agreement was stated in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by PTBA President Director Arsal Ismail and BRIN Deputy for Research & Innovation Utilization Hendrian in Jakarta on Monday, October 2, 2023.
Arsal hopes that the collaboration will create innovation that would take into consideration economies of scale so that it may be implemented, particularly for the use of coal.
"We hope that this collaboration with BRIN can create new innovations and efficiency so that coal downstreaming can be carried out," said Arsal Ismail.
This is in line with Government policy which encourages increasing added value, as well as with PTBA's vision to become a world-class energy company that cares about the environment. "Therefore, technology innovation is required," Arsal stated.
On the same occasion, Hendrian stated that his institution was prepared to support PTBA in maintaining national energy security. It is hoped that PTBA's contribution will expand as a result of innovations developed by BRIN researchers.
"Fellows from BRIN should be able to become partners as expected. We will immediately make coordination after signing this agreement. Hopefully, our collaboration will make a significant contribution to our nation and state,” he said.
The Director of Research & Innovation Utilization in BRIN Industry Mulyadi Sinung Harjono, Head of the BRIN Mining Technology Center Anggoro Tri Mursito, PTBA Business Development Director Rafli Yandra, PTBA Corporate Secretary Niko Chandra, PTBA SVP PMO Kris Tjahajaning Tyas, PTBA Mining Development VP Wali Al Hasunah, PTBA Downstream Development VP Setiadi Wicaksono attended this event.
