Bukit Asam's Strong Commitment to Reduce Emissions PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) received two awards in the 2023 Corporate Emissions Transparency Awarding event on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, namely Transparency in Corporate Emission Reduction in the Green Elite Category and Transparency in Corporate Emissions Calculation in the Platinum Plus Category.

General Manager of PTBA's Tanjung Enim Mining Unit, Venpri Sagara, expressed gratitude for the recognition. “We would like to thank you for the appreciation given to PT Bukit Asam Tbk at this event. This recognition demonstrates that we are already on track with our carbon emission reduction program," Venpri remarked.

Venpri added that this award motivated PTBA to keep moving forward and innovating in decarbonization efforts in the mining sector. "We also want to convey that PT Bukit Asam Tbk fully supports the government's program to achieve Net Zero Emissions," he said.

This virtual event was organized by B Universe in collaboration with the Bumi Global Karbon Foundation (BGK Foundation). Chief Editor of Investor Daily, Djaka Susila, and the Founder of the BGK Foundation, Achmad Deni Daruri were also present.

PTBA's performance is inextricably linked to the company's strategy towards Net Zero Emissions by 2060 or sooner. PTBA has implemented good mining practices with decarbonization programs. As of December 2022, the overall reclamation area of PTBA had reached 2,151.84 hectares (ha), with 2,689,800 trees planted.

PTBA has implemented a number of decarbonization activities in addition to land reclamation. In terms of operations, the company uses Eco Mechanized Mining, which replaces mining equipment that consumes fossil fuels with electricity. PTBA has deployed several electric-powered machines, including 7 Shovel PC-3000 Electric Excavators, 40 Hybrid 100 Ton Class Dump Trucks (Diesel and Electric), and 6 Electric Mining Pumps.

As a concrete move toward lowering carbon emissions, PTBA has operated 5 units of electric buses at Tarahan Port and 10 units of electric buses at the Tanjung Enim Mining Unit, for a total of 15 electric buses. Electric vehicle adoption will continue to rise as a means of reducing carbon emissions.

The company also uses an E-Mining Reporting System, which is a real-time and online production reporting system, to reduce conventional monitoring that uses fuel.

PTBA together with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Indonesian Forest Entrepreneurs Association (APHI), and Indonesian Coal Mining Association (APBI) launched the Pilot Biomass Exploitation Partnership Project at Mine Mouth Cofiring Power Plant (PLTU) in South Sumatra on December 22, 2022.

These decarbonization programs are part of PTBA's carbon management roadmap which will continue to be implemented and developed in a sustainable manner in every line of the company to give optimal results.
